A quick guide to our destination’s visa requirements for US Citizens

It’s never the most exciting part of your travel plans, but it’s definitely necessary. Don’t get nervous that you’ll be turned around at the border’s entry, and take a quick look to see what the visa requirements are for your big trip!

South America

  • Peru – up to 183 days for tourism only (90 days is commonly given) – business travelers must obtain visa prior to travel
  • Ecuador – No visa for 90 days
  • Chile – 90 days entry visa-free if arrival by land, sea or from Easter Island, or upon payment of US$160 reciprocity fee at Santiago International Airport if arriving from an international flight
  • Argentina – 90 days entry visa-free, or payment of US$160 reciprocity fee at Ezeiza International Airport or Aeroparque Jorge Newbery. Permit is valid for the life of the passport. Beginning 31 October at Buenos Aires’ regional airport Aeroparque and 28 December at the international airport Ezeiza, visitors from the United States must pay the required reciprocity fee online by credit card before arriving in Argentina via the two airports.
  • Uruguay – No visa for 90 days
  • Brazil – Visa must be obtained for US$160 prior to travel
  • Colombia – No visa for 90 days
  • Venezuela – No visa for 90 days
  • Bolivia – 90 day visa good for five years issued on arrival for US$135

Central America

  • Mexico – No visa for 180 days
  • Panama – 180 days; Visa or tourist card (issued upon arrival in Panama for $30) required
  • Honduras –  No visa for 90 days
  • Costa Rica –  No visa for 90 days
  • Guatemala –  No visa for 90 days
  • Nicaragua –  90 days tourist card issued upon arrival for $5
  • Belize – No visa for 30 days
  • El Salvador – 90 days tourist card issued on arrival for $10

 

Africa

  • South Africa – No visa for 90 days
  • Zambia – Visa issued upon arrival for US$50 (single entry) or US$85 (multiple entry)
  • Malawi – No visa for 90 days
  • Namibia – No visa for 90 days
  • Botswana – No visa for 90 days
  • Kenya – 90 days visa issued upon arrival for US$25
  • Rwanda – No visa for 90 days
  • Tanzania – Visa issued upon arrival for US$100 (1 year, multiple entry)
  • Egypt – 30 days visa issued upon arrival for US$15

 

India/S. Asia

  • India – Must apply for visa in advance
  • Nepal – 30 days visa issued upon arrival for US$40
  • Bhutan – Must apply for visa in advance
  • Tibet – Must apply for visa and permits in advance
  • Sri Lanka – 30 day visa must be applied for online

 

South-East Asia

  • Thailand – No visa for 30 days by air/15 by land
  • Cambodia – 30 day visa issued upon arrival for US$20 or by e-visa in advance for US$25
  • Vietnam – Must apply for a visa in advance at a local Vietnamese embassy or apply online for a pre-arranged Visa on Arrival (the visa stamp can only be collected at the airport when landing)
  • Laos – 30 day visa issued upon arrival for US$30
  • Myanmar (Burma) – Must apply for visa in advance
  • Indonesia – 30-day visa issued upon arrival for US$25
  • Malaysia – No visa for 90 days
  • Singapore – No visa for 90 days

 

Antarctica

  • No visas necessary , but specific permits required
