A walking tour introduced Jose and Monica to Ponta Delgada’s historic center before they explored São Miguel’s famous Furnas hot springs and geothermal landscapes.

They also enjoyed traditional volcanic stew, cooked using geothermal heat in Furnas, and visited a historic São Miguel tea plantation to learn about the island’s tea-growing traditions.

Discovering Faial and Horta

The journey continued to Faial, with Horta serving as a scenic base for exploring the island’s coastline and volcanic landscapes.

Although the planned whale and dolphin-watching excursion was canceled because of the weather, Jose and Monica explored Faial by car, taking in its coastal and volcanic landscapes.

A highlight was Capelinhos Volcano, one of the most distinctive attractions in the Azores. Formed by a volcanic eruption in the 1950s, its rugged landscape and Atlantic views offered a fascinating look at Faial’s geological history.

From Faial, the trip continued to Pico, another fascinating Azorean island.
