Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of daily visitors allowed to enter Peru was cut to 2,244 in 2020. However, the Ministry of Culture has increased the capacity to 4,044 visitors per day, effective until December 31, 2022, in order to consider the need to revive the tourism industry. This action will enable tourism to resume in Cusco and throughout the rest of Peru.

This is wonderful news for you because Cusco was recently announced as the 21st best tourist destination in the world according to the U.S. based magazine Travel + Leisure. The Travel + Leisure magazine’s World’s Best Awards have a significant effect on tourism in the nominated cities. This honor was given to Peru three times in a row, in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Cusco has so much to explore. Not only is Peru home to some of the world’s best eateries, it is also filled with encapsulating history. Enjoy a private walking tour of Cusco where you can see the Cathedral and its Art Museum, as well as the Korikancha Temple, also known as the Temple of the Sun. Visit the Casa Concha Museum that was recently renovated and houses over 360 archaeological pieces from Machu Picchu, recently returned by Yale University. Or experience the vibrant spirit of the city at the San Pedro Market. It is a lively, local market where you can receive a briefing about the local Andean ingredients and have an opportunity to purchase them.

You may also visit the San Blas quarter to see the undeniable strength of the Inca walls, stroll through quaint little cobblestone alleyways with artisans who sell their wares on the street, and take in a host of other attractions.

With travel restrictions loosening and the early Fall season approaching, it is the perfect time for you to begin planning your trip to Cusco. With the help of one of our Yampu consultants, you can build the ultimate itinerary for your travels to one of the best travel spots in the world.
